Daniel is an award-winning journalist, proven nonprofit professional and an experienced educator.
Daniel founded Fostering Media Connections, a national nonprofit journalism organization focused on child welfare and youth justice. He has written and produced stories for CNN, Newsweek, The San Francisco Chronicle and the Oprah Winfrey Network among many others. Heimpel is also a pioneer in journalism education, with his Journalism for Social Change class having reached hundreds of graduate students at U.C. Berkeley, USC and UPenn, and thousands globally as a massive open online course offered through edX.
As executive editor of The Giving List, Daniel works to uplift the work of meaningful nonprofits, while also thinking critically about the role of philanthropy in promoting justice. 

Alexandra StablerDirector of Partnerships, The Giving List

Stabler oversees strategic marketing and partner development between charitable organizations, public agencies and forward-thinking corporations.
Stabler has more than a decade of leadership experience, most recently serving as a global marketing executive at the entertainment agency Endeavor, providing cultural marketing expertise to companies including Amazon Alexa, Ubisoft, QVC, the MLB and Audi.
Previously, at 42West, Alex worked with Anonymous Content, Buzzfeed Motion Pictures and theSkimm, helping them navigate the increasingly fragmented media landscape. Prior to that, at the Glover Park Group, Alex led strategic communications efforts for The Gates Foundation, Participant Media, American Sniper, The Imitation Game, and Food Inc.
As the great-granddaughter of the founder of a major charitable foundation based in L.A., Alex’s exposure to the critical impact of charitable giving was cemented at a young age. A Los Angeles native, Alex earned her Bachelor of Arts from UC Berkeley.

Trent Ichiro WatanabeArt Director, The Giving List

Trent Watanabe is the Executive Art Director for the Montecito Journal Media Group and The Giving List. Trent began his career as the Press Manager at Western Web Printing. He then joined Shorty’s Skateboards as the Print Production Manager where he oversaw design and production for all print ads and other content. After leaving Shorty’s, Trent founded Layout Solutions, where his first client was The Montecito Journal. He later joined The Montecito Journal as its in-house graphic designer and Art Director. Under Trent’s artistic leadership The Journal developed new products such as its Glossy Magazine and The Santa Barbara Sentinel.
Trent grew up in Montecito as a third generation Santa Barbarian. He later attended Humboldt State University where he studied Studio Art. His favorite things are skateboarding, motorcycles and fishing. But his first love is graphic design. “I love it so much,” says Trent. “No matter what I’m working on, I want to figure it out until it becomes what it’s supposed to be in the world.”
